RTA opens AC bus shelters -Dubai

DUBAI — The Public Transport Agency of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) yesterday opened 47 air-conditioned bus shelters in Jumeirah yesterday.
This comes as part of the first phase of the project to build 1,024 air-conditioned bus shelters across the emirate.
Essa Abdurrahman Al Dossari, CEO of the Public Transport Agency said RTA had already completed construction of 324 air-conditioned bus shelters and they would be opened for the public shortly.
'In the first phase, we'll set up 500 bus shelters. Then we'll build another 524 shelters in the next phases,' said Dossari. The new bus shelters can accommodate 14 people at a time and maintain a temperature of 22 degree Celsius.
The shelters have designated signals to alert passengers on the arrival of the buses. The shelters also have dedicated dust bins to maintain cleanliness.
The ceremony to open the AC bus shelters was held at a function at Madinat Jumeirah Hotel.
Meanwhile, Dossari added that by 2009-end, RTA would increase the number of public transport buses to 2,500 in a bid to encourage the residents to use public transport system more often.
